The Fair Shot Café with a conscience, aims to transform the lives of young adults with learning disabilities by offering training and employment opportunities to gain the skills they need to begin a career in hospitality.

A new, first-of-its-kind social enterprise café, Fair Shot, has opened in Mayfair, London. The opening will address statistics which show 94% of 16-24 year olds with learning disabilities are unemployed and have no future job prospects. The global pandemic crisis has further exacerbated these figures.

Fair Shot provides on-the-job training, places trainees in paid employment and partners with employers to create more jobs for adults with learning disabilities.

Fair Shot offers an Annual Training program in partnership with West London College for up to 12 young adults with learning disabilities where they are able to gain accredited hospitality skills and one-year paid employment either in the café or with one of Fair Shot’s employer partners. Action on Disability will provide ongoing support for all trainees whilst in employment.

Bianca Tavella, Founder and CEO Fair Shot Café, said: “Currently in the UK, young people with a learning disability face 94% unemployment and for those that do find employment, 80% are either fired or leave due to inadequate support and training. With Fair Shot we aim to make real social impact on how business owners hire, train and support this community of extremely willing, extremely capable individuals. Equally, we want to support young adults with a learning disability find meaningful jobs and contribute fully to society.”

Simon Arwas, Fair Shot Trainee, added: “What I love about Fair Shot is working with Bianca. It is a real privilege. She has a clear vision for what she wants her business to be. It’s been really interesting learning about all the different coffees and the thing I’m most looking forward to is for Fair Shot to open and to get started.”

Fair Shot will immerse its customers in its belief that everyone deserves a fair shot. Beautifully designed, 17 South Molton Street is an elegant, welcoming and relaxed destination with delicious European food and speciality coffee.
