Head to Birch in Hertfordshire for a half-term stay taking you and the children back to nature

Birch is a grade-II listed mansion set within 55 acres of green space near Waltham Cross. The founder want to create a new form of hospitality providing relaxed, led by nature experiences. It’s open for members and non-members with one thing in common – to escape the city and to nurture creative souls. For those with little ones, just as eager to explore the world around them, Birch’s philosophy is all about getting the most from life. Whether that’s to wander around in the fresh air, make things, bake things, or play, there’s plenty on the menu for the younger generation. And half term is no exception.

Birch boasts 140 bedrooms, a growing farm, two restaurants and an interactive bakery in partnership with chef Amber Francis, three bars, 20 event spaces, a co-working space, fitness studios, a lido, a pottery workshop, and screening, music, and art rooms.

This half-term Birch has created a package which includes food and drink credits and three for two stays.

Young Adventurers Club

Explore a world without walls. Birch help create fond memories for your children at Birch: fresh air, adventure and games limited only by their imagination – all under the guidance of their resident nature enthusiasts and educators from Be Free Forest School. Please note: the 10am session is for ages 2-7, and the 1pm session is for ages 5-12,  £26.

Sunday 12th February, Sunday 19th February

Funday: Create & Play

Every Sunday = Funday for the younger Birch community. In ‘Create & Play’ sessions, kids will be entertained with group games, creative workshops, fancy dress and acting and more. Each session is different! Run by professional childcare, these sessions aim for maximum fun for children, and allow parents some time off to relax, £24

Pottery: Make & Paint (Kids)

New for 2023, is a special kids-focussed pottery session during school holidays called ‘Make & Paint’. In this session children will work with air-drying clay to make their own creations, as well as decorate with paints. All works created will be able to be taken home and enjoyed forever, £24.

Monday 13th February

Funday: Totally tie-dye & Lava lamp making

Ages 5-12, for the ‘Totally tie-dye & Lava lamp making’ session it’s all about celebrating colour! Have fun discovering different ways to use it, from making your own patterns with dyes to the never-ending wonder of lava lamps! £24.

Tuesday 14th February

Funday: Superhero School

For the ‘Superhero school’ session it’s all about getting into character and having the best time, as children work with Active’s team of trained actors to dress up, role-play and act out different themes – to infinity any beyond! £24

Kids Valentines Party

(6pm-11:30pm) This Valentines night, whilst you dine at Zebra Riding Club, children can attend a special Kids Valentines Party run by Active London (professional childcare). Expect loads of fun and games throughout the evening! Suitable for children aged 5-11, £26.

Wednesday 15th February, Friday 17th February

Funday: Laser Tag

In this active session, children will be provided with laser guns and body belts to play a series of fun games and missions over the course of an afternoon. £24.

Thursday 16th February

Funday: Magic for kids

Got what it takes to be a magician in this afternoon session? Join the magic workshop where kids will be shown TOP secret tricks to impress family and friends. Make magic tricks and have a go at performing new magic. £24.

Friday 17th February

Kids Art Club

Let your kids explore their creativity with artist and workshop facilitator Xanthe Burdett. Using all sorts of materials – charcoal, chalk, watercolours and more – this is an opportunity for kids aged 6–12 to have fun, try something new and make mini-masterpieces. 6-12 (young children can attend with a parent/guardian) £24.
