Exquisite Australian girlswear label Petite Amalie has made its debut at Childrensalon for AW23.
Founded by former textiles and womenswear buyer Alex Vardakis, Petite Amalie is renowned for its romantic dresses with a vintage feel. The label’s collection features classic, heritage-inspired cuts, artisan craftsmanship and a selection of fabrics that span from luxurious velvets to delicate gossamer lace.
Staples for the perfect capsule wardrobe
In addition to their twirl-worthy dresses, Petite Amalie has branched out into daywear with laid-back pieces crafted from soft denim, corduroy, chambray and wool so you can create the perfect capsule wardrobe for your mini fashionistas.
Founded in 2017, the inspiration for the brand dates back to Alex’s childhood, when her greatest joy was exploring antique fabrics and vintage clothing stores with her mother. She says, “Petite Amalie is definitely an ode to the old world, and my designs all have that in common, but I suppose for me, it’s about presenting them in a fresh way and looking at how the modern girl would wear them.”
Alex and her family, including her three daughters, hail from Greek heritage and call Melbourne home. Alex’s children are not just her inspiration; they also give her a genuine insight into what children love to wear. She personally tests the clothes on her daughters to ensure her designs are a perfect fit.
“A dress can be beautiful and stunning, but if it’s not comfortable, or if it doesn’t feel right, they just won’t wear it. I started the brand when my girls were little, and I was looking for beautiful dresses for them to wear to events and there was a real lack of that here in Australia.”
