St James Nursery & Preparatory School Empowers Pupils with Practical Life Skills through Culinary Education

In a bid to foster practical life skills alongside academic excellence, St James Nursery & Preparatory School offers a bespoke cookery curriculum to pupils from Nursery to Year 6. Having teamed up with chef Allegra McEvedy, St James’ children enjoy time in the kitchen learning essential skills.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: In the state-of-the-art Teaching Kitchen, pupils are immersed in a hands-on culinary experience, exploring not only the art of cooking but also gaining valuable insights into seasonality, nutrition, and ethical sourcing. Beyond recipes and tasty dishes to bring back home, the curriculum delves into teamwork, time management, and the importance of maintaining a tidy workspace – all fundamental life skills!

Overseeing this curriculum is the renowned Chef Allegra McEvedy MBE. With a career spanning over 25 years, Allegra is celebrated for her conscious approach to catering. Described by The Independent as ‘a caterer with a conscience’, she has cooked in some of London’s finest restaurants, authored eight cookery books, co-founded LEON, owns a wine bar restaurant, worked on CBBC’s Junior Bake Off as a judge, and on Step Up to The Plate as co-host. She is now bringing her wealth of experience to St James, creating a comprehensive cookery syllabus for all pupils.

Parents are not left out of the culinary journey at St James! They are also invited to participate in morning cooking classes, further enriching the school’s vibrant community.

Through its innovative curriculum, St James Nursery & Preparatory School prepares pupils for success in both their academic and personal lives.
