London is home to many beautiful parks and lots of green spaces that are perfect for a family picnic. Whether you’re looking for a spot with stunning views, historical significance, or plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained, the city has it all. Here’s a round-up of our favourite family picnic destinations in London, where you can enjoy a delightful day with the kids in the great outdoors.
Parenting Mental Health Charity Launches the Big Picnic
This summer, the charity Parenting Mental Health is hosting the first-ever Big Picnic, inviting you to join in the fun, on Thursday, 29th August. The event aims to raise funds and awareness for parents supporting children with mental health challenges.
Supporters are encouraged to host their own picnics. You’ll receive your very own fundraising pack featuring a special recipe from former Great British Bake Off contestant Dan Hunter, along with materials and tips for a successful picnic!
Join in with a virtual picnic to raise awareness
The charity will also host an online picnic on the same day for its 40,000+ community members. The virtual event will include interactive workshops, talks, and activities focused on well-being, such as therapeutic journaling, breathwork, creative writing, and clay therapy, as well as a digital picnic that families can join from home.
Suzanne Alderson, Founder of Parenting Mental Health, explains, “Our goal is to reach one million parents by 2026, from those wanting to learn about mental health issues to families in crisis needing immediate support. The Big Picnic will help us raise essential funds to continue providing our services and offer much-needed respite and connection for families. Supporting a child with mental health issues can be incredibly challenging and isolating, so this event offers a chance for parents to connect and focus on their well-being.”
In addition to Dan Hunter’s Big Picnic cupcake recipe, crochet expert Moonfly’s Emporium will provide a pattern for a picnic basket, and the charity’s food community will share their favourite picnic recipes. Participants can host their picnics on the event day, during the bank holiday weekend, or anytime in the week leading up to it.
