We Review A Magical Desert Escape for Families at The White Camel Agafay, Morocco

Tucked away in the stunning Agafay Desert, just 45 minutes from Marrakech, The White Camel Agafay offers an enchanting retreat that is perfect for families. Set against a dramatic desert backdrop, this oasis allows you to relax by the pool, enjoy breathtaking sunsets, and experience the tranquility that only the desert can provide. For families with children, it’s a true paradise—vast open spaces for the kids to roam free, plus a range of exciting activities that keep them entertained for hours. The friendly and attentive staff go out of their way to make sure everyone has an unforgettable experience.

One of the most luxurious desert camps in the region, The White Camel Agafay combines rustic charm with high-end comfort. The interiors of the Bedouin-style tents are tastefully decorated, featuring high-quality furnishings, plush bedding, and plenty of space. It’s the perfect environment for young adventurers eager to explore a new and magical world in the desert.

We had the chance to try some of the incredible activities on offer, and they did not disappoint. The dune buggy ride was a huge hit with my children! Racing across the sand dunes and into the heart of the desert was exhilarating, and they couldn’t stop talking about it afterward.

Next, we went camel riding—another magical experience. The children had the chance to meet and pet the camels before setting off on a camel-back adventure, guided across the mountain peaks with incredible views of the desert stretching out in every direction. In addition to camel riding, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy, including horseback riding, quad biking, and more.

The White Camel Agafay is nestled in a panoramic landscape, with its luxurious tents forming a picturesque desert village. As evening falls, guests are greeted with the warm glow of flickering candles, served traditional mint tea, and treated to the lively rhythms of a Gnoua band. The children especially enjoyed the music and dancing, and the performers were so welcoming that even the little ones joined in on the fun.

For those wanting to cool off, the infinity pool is a real highlight. Overlooking the vast desert, it’s the perfect spot to relax and swim while taking in the stunning views. The pool is suitable for all ages, with full pool service provided, including towels.

Dining at The White Camel is a feast for the senses. Evening meals which have something for everyone (including spaghetti bolognese for the children) are accompanied by music, dancing, a fire show, and delicious Moroccan wines from some of the country’s best vineyards—an absolute treat. As the sun sets, you can sip a cocktail while watching the sky transform from fiery reds into soft blues and purples. The sunset we experienced was nothing short of breathtaking and the children loved dancing in the sunset to the Moroccan music.

When night falls, the desert sky is perfect for stargazing, and we were fortunate enough to meet the camp’s on-site astrologer who was absolutely incredible. The children spent hours with him, exploring the solar system, using advanced stargazing equipment, and even spotting planets in the crystal-clear desert sky which was a highlight.

Mornings at The White Camel are just as magical. The luxury tents feature panoramic glass walls that allow you to wake up to the sight of the desert sunrise from the comfort of your bed. We stayed in one of the family accommodations, which included a large bed for the adults, two single beds for the kids, and a private pool and terrace.

The experience is further enhanced with the camp’s hammam spa, where we were treated to relaxing body scrubs as a family. The peaceful spa area provided a tranquil escape, and we all left feeling completely refreshed and revitalized. The White Camel is also known for its yoga offerings, with private lessons and group classes available for guests who want to start their day with some mindful relaxation.

My children declared this one of their best experiences ever and have been asking when we can return. The White Camel also has a location in the Sahara Desert, which is now on our list for future adventures.
