Best Footwear Brand
Joint Gold – Young Soles & Zig + Star
Silver – Bobux
Young Soles is stepping confidently into the future of sustainable kids’ footwear. This independent British brand has combined timeless style with genuine eco-innovation, making impressive strides in reducing its environmental footprint – all while delivering the same beautifully crafted shoes it’s known for.
A standout highlight is the launch of Rowan, a 100% recyclable jelly shoe made from recycled PVC, natural hemp, and a breathable cork insole. Stylish, durable, and designed with circularity in mind, Rowan is a milestone in planet-friendly design for little feet.
But Young Soles hasn’t stopped there. Backed by an Innovate UK grant, the brand has introduced a recycling scheme in collaboration with one of Europe’s largest textile recyclers. With 72 million pairs of children’s shoes sent to landfill each year in the UK alone, this initiative offers families a smarter, more sustainable solution – and rewards them with credit towards future purchases.
From recycled soles and eco packaging to leather sourced as a by-product of the food industry, every element of the business is rooted in responsible choices.

ZIG+STAR is turning the kids’ footwear industry on its head with smart, sustainable design that grows with the child – literally. Created by mum of three, Ali McAleavy, the brand was born from frustration over fast outgrown shoes, landfill waste, and overly gendered designs. The solution? A stylish, unisex range that puts longevity and planet-first thinking at its core.
Their clever “Good-To-Grow” concept allows each pair to adjust as children’s feet grow, lasting at least 50% longer than standard kids’ shoes. New school shoes and an upcoming trainer line offer full-size adjustability, effectively doubling the usable lifespan of each pair. And thanks to a take-back scheme, every pair gets a second life – keeping shoes out of landfill and in circulation.
Every style is podiatrist-approved, made with gold-rated, non-toxic ethical materials, and designed for comfort straight out of the box. It’s footwear that doesn’t compromise on function, fit or fashion.

With zero-drop soles, wide toe boxes, flexible uppers, and minimal padding, the design allows kids’ feet to move freely – just as nature intended. These premium shoes encourage balance, strength, and proper foot development, all while delivering comfort and durability in bold, adventure-ready styles.
Alongside this, Bobux’s eco-conscious partnership with BLOOM® showcases its commitment to responsible innovation. By using algae-based materials in its Grass Court, Hi Court, and Marvel styles, the brand replaces fossil fuel components with renewable resources that actively clean air and water. Each pair contributes to removing harmful algae from waterways and reducing carbon emissions—proving that every step can make a difference.
