The London Museum (formerly the Museum of London) is the world’s largest museum dedicated to urban history, documenting 450,000 years of London’s past through over seven million objects. It covers the city from prehistoric, Roman, and medieval times to modern-day, with a strong focus on social history.
The main site at London Wall closed in 2022 and is currently moving to a new, larger home in the historic Smithfield Market, scheduled to reopen in 2026.
The Collection: The museum holds the world’s largest archaeological archive, along with extensive fashion, photography, and oral history collections.
Museum of London Docklands: A branch of the museum located in a 200-year-old warehouse in Canary Wharf, which explores the history of the River Thames, trade, and slavery.
Rebranding: In July 2024, the “Museum of London” rebranded to “London Museum” to mark its new chapter.
