LONDON WELCOMES LITTLE AMAL
Little Amal, a 3.5-metre-tall puppet of a nine-year-old girl, arrives in London as part of her long journey from the borders of Syria to Manchester.
The giant puppet is part of The Walk travelling festival project by the Good Chance Theatre. The theatre also produced The Jungle about the Calais refugee camp. Its aim is to bring attention to the needs of young refugees and the dangerous journeys they have to make. In search of her mother, Amal will travel 8000 km from the Syria-Turkey border to the UK.
Her epic voyage began in August and took her across Turkey and Europe. Each town or city she visits hosts celebrations to mark her progress. From Friday October 22nd to Monday October 25th, Little Amal will be in London. She will take part in special events across the capital.
There will be family shows, sleepovers and concerts in her honour, including at the National Theatre, the Royal Opera House, Shakespeare’s Globe and Somerset House. There will also be street parties to celebrate before she leaves to travel up North to her final stop in Manchester.
