The Midsummer Mechanicals are back! The Olivier Award-nominated family show, based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, returns to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at the Globe Theatre this summer. The show follows Peter Quince’s acting troupe – known as the Mechanicals – as they attempt to recapture the success of their first hit Pyramus and Thisbe, a show so bold, brilliant and chaotic that it went down in theatre history.
One midsummer’s night, a band of amateur actors led by Nick Bottom staged their first ever play. It was so bold, so brilliant and so chaotic that it went down in theatre history.
Now these actors – known as the Mechanicals – are back to perform their latest masterpiece, and with half an hour to go until curtain-up, everything is in hand. The actors are (almost) assembled, the play is (nearly) rehearsed, and the audience (that’s you!) are ready. What could possibly go wrong? Everything, it turns out.
During performances, prams are not permitted in the auditorium. Worn baby slings and carriers are welcome. We are happy to store prams and buggies during your visit, but please be aware that they will be unattended and left at your risk.
