Secret Garden Arty Sundays

On Sunday afternoons over the summer, The Garden Museum will be running art sessions inspired by our exhibition and the book ‘The Secret Garden’.

Join in a series of experimental drawing activities inspired by hidden gardens in South East London. Look at photos of gardens local to the Garden Museum and further afield.

Tell an abbreviated version of the story of The Secret Garden with activities and games that go along with each part. Think about what children would do in the garden and play in their very own garden, acting this out and drawing it.

Help build a large scale Secret Garden inspired by artist Juliette Losq’s installation in The Secret Garden exhibition.

Imagine what plants would grow there, using the traditional illustrations in the exhibition as inspiration. Make plants out of drawings on torn paper, wire, cardboard, and tissue paper for display in the museum.

Enjoy the restorative powers of the garden in this informal drawing session, inspired by artists such as Julie Whelan and Derek Jarman who used gardening and art to deal with health issues. With no expectation of how the finished drawings will turn out, enjoy the process of drawing the stages of plant growth from seed to bud, to flower, to fruit while listening to calming nature inspired music.
