Summer at Southbank

With summer holidays on the horizon, the capital’s favourite central London riverside hotspot, Southbank, is celebrating the return of the sun with the ultimate day-out of alfresco living, entertainment and kids’ activities with a programme of events all summer long.

Families can enjoy a full day of outdoor adventure in South Bank – all of which is free! Splash around in the outdoor fountains, with the return of everyone’s favourite water fountain installation, Jeppe Hein’s Appearing Rooms; you can also visit the kids adventure playground in the riverside haven of Jubilee Gardens, or for a vista of London, why not climb the Garden Museum’s medieval tower for glorious views of the capital – free to under 18s.

Delighting children of all ages since 2007, it wouldn’t be summer without Jeppe Hein’s Appearing Rooms fountain.  His Appearing Rooms fountain shoots jets of water into the air, creating rooms that disappear as quickly as they emerge. The design is meant to be interactive, so children are encouraged to cool off amongst the fountain, which is certainly welcome on the warmer days.
